A deterministic, evidence-based engine plans your training: progression, deloads, and daily readiness adjustments from Apple Health, with a tappable “why” behind every set. Not an AI guessing. A method, shown.

Workout apps plateau people because their programming is a black box nobody can audit. We took the opposite bet: every claim on this page is backed by something you can see in the app.
Double progression, linear, and DUP schemes with automatic deloads, applied to generated and custom workouts. Most apps don’t progress the workouts you write. Ours does.
Proof: your e1RM curve + published methodologyHRV, sleep, and resting heart rate from Apple Health plus a 5-second check-in set today’s readiness. Low day? The plan flexes and tells you which rule fired.
Proof: the readiness screen, adjustment shownEvery prescription carries its rationale: the rule, the data behind it, the rounding to your actual plates. The methodology is published like a changelog.
Proof: the rationale card on every setNo account required. Everything on-device by default. One-tap CSV/JSON export that stays free forever. Leaving must always be easy, or staying means nothing.
Proof: export is in the free tier, permanentlyHome rig, commercial gym, hotel dumbbells: per-gym equipment profiles with plate math, so every load is achievable with what’s in the room. Rack’s busy? One-tap swap.
Proof: the equipment coverage reportThree weeks of everything unlocked to start, then a free tier that trains you forever: full logger plus one program with real progression. Pro adds power. Lifetime exists because not everything should be a subscription.
Proof: the pricing table below, no asterisksProgression is deterministic and unit-tested: the same training history always produces the same prescription. When you stall, it steps you down before grinding you down. When readiness dips, it adjusts. Never past your plan.
Every morning, Anneal reads HRV, sleep, and resting heart rate from Apple Health (no wearable quiz, no daily interrogation) and blends in a 5-second subjective check-in. The result modulates today’s load and volume, with the reason on screen.
Readiness only reduces or holds your plan. It never pushes you past it. Health data is read on-device and never written back, never uploaded.
Workout Complete shows real PRs, checked against your actual history, plus anything you earned that session: a badge, a milestone, a streak week closed. Nothing in it is purchasable. All of it is training.
Share any card straight from the app; Bench keeps a private gallery of every one, yours to keep even if you never share it.

Most streaks punish you for having a life, then shame you into quitting once you break one. Anneal’s streak is weekly, not daily: close your ring most weeks and a below-target week auto-repairs with a banked coal, no purchase involved. Miss worse than that and the streak enters embers, not zero. Close a ring within two weeks and it’s rekindled, not restarted. A real gap still counts what you built: Best: 18 wk stays on your profile as an asset, never a loss, and your first week back earns more than an ordinary one.
Badges name who you’re becoming, not what you counted. No XP, no leaderboard pressure by default, nothing sold. Prescribed rest and deload days still count as on-plan, because recovery is training too.
Trials are fixed arcs with a real start and a real finish: a 28-day starter, a gentle comeback arc, an 8-week program arc, and two 75-day challenges. Most are judged weekly, not daily, for the same reason the streak above is weekly: one bad day shouldn’t sink an arc you’ve been building for weeks, and rest days the engine already prescribed still count toward it.
One tougher arc, Tempering, judges daily as an informed opt-in — and even it never resets you to day one on a miss. Optional vows add daily reading, a water target you set, and a weekly progress photo that stays on your device. Every finish earns a chest. Find Trials on the You tab.

No other training app does this: tell Anneal what you own, and it maps exactly which muscles and movement patterns you can fully train, where you’re capped, and, for home gyms, which single purchase unlocks the most training value next.

Every new install starts with three weeks of full access: every Pro feature unlocked, free, with nothing to sign up for. The paywall only appears after you’ve actually felt what Pro does.
There is nothing to sign up for. Your training data lives in a database on your iPhone. Sign-in exists for exactly one optional thing: syncing your workouts between your own devices. Skip it and nothing ever leaves your phone.
HRV, sleep, and heart-rate are read from Apple Health on-device to compute readiness. Finished workouts can count toward your Activity rings if you allow it. Your Health data is never uploaded, even with sync on.
This site has no analytics pixels, no ad tech, no cookies. The app practices the same: no third-party SDKs watching you train.
One-tap CSV/JSON export on every tier. Delete the app and the on-device data goes with it. If you turned on sync, deleting your account removes the cloud copy too.
No. Your program is written by a deterministic, unit-tested engine: the same inputs always produce the same prescription, and every decision shows its rule. We may later add a chat explainer that answers questions about your plan, but a language model will never author it.
Now. Anneal is live on the App Store for iPhone (iOS 17+), with an Apple Watch companion.
Yes. Strong CSV import is built in, with more importers planned. Your e1RM curves and progression pick up where your old logger left off.
That’s the home turf. Set up a gym profile with your exact plates and dumbbell range and every prescribed load is buildable with what you own. The coverage report tells you what you can’t train yet and what to buy next if you want to.
No. The Watch app adds rest-timer haptics and set logging from your wrist, and readiness uses whatever Apple Health has, but everything works phone-only.
iPhone first. We’d rather be excellent on one platform than mediocre on two. If Anneal earns it, we’ll revisit.
Yes to the first, no to the second. The streak is weekly and self-repairing (see Momentum above); badges and Bench share cards are earned by training, never bought, and never gate your progression. Miss a week and the app never accuses you, it just doesn’t reward that week.
No. Anneal programs training for healthy lifters, holds conservative caps on load jumps, and only ever reduces a plan on low readiness. Pain, injury, or rehab? See a professional. An app shouldn’t pretend to be one.
Free logger forever. No account required. Every set explained.
